Qatar Navigation has recently
celebrated the opening of their new
15,000 sq metre logistics facility
in Jebel Ali Free Zone. The
Company’s services include
warehousing, distribution, packing,
kitting and palletisation, and the
state-of-the-art site will be
managed by ATMS’ StockTrack PLUS (STP)
warehouse management system with
additional modules for client
charging and Customs.
The new site includes 11,000 heavy
duty VNA racking locations, plus an
additional 4,000 double deep pallet
spaces, along with 9 loading bays
for the receipt and despatch of
goods. Key criteria when selecting
the system included accurate track
and trace of all stock, ease of
locating/retrieving products, plus
real time management of warehousing
activities. STP uses Psion Teklogix
radio data terminals to communicate
tasks to operatives and record each
transaction to the second.
Qatar Navigation’s General Manager,
Mr Ramswamy said ‘We choose STP
because it provides a perfect
solution to handle the complexities
of our business. The additional
charging module enables us to
accurately record and report on all
activities to our clients whilst the
custom’s module is fully compliant
with bonded warehousing
legislation.’ STP records Bill of
Entry information including details
of voyage, vessel and relevant
documentation for goods arriving
from overseas, and retains the
information at item level. A full
audit trail is maintained throughout
the operation from the moment of
arrival to final despatch.
Future plans for Qatar Navigation
include the development of another
site in Dubai Logistics City to
support the Company’s rapidly
growing marine transportation
business within the region.
